DESCRIPTION:

This is a superb-quality shop display counter cabinet, and we are pleased to offer it to both new and existing clients. Its craftsmanship is immediately apparent, with the maker’s badge of F. Sage, London, confirming its provenance from a highly regarded cabinet maker and shop fitter of the period.

Constructed from fine-quality mahogany with an attractive colour and finish, the cabinet features bowed glass at both ends. Dating from approximately 1880, it displays only minimal age-related signs of previous ownership and use.

Two 9mm glass display shelves, each formed in four sections for ease of adjustment on the cast brackets. The base is covered in a practical blue baize to show the displayed items to their best.

Curved shelf ends that echo the bowed ends of the cabinet, further highlighting the quality of its design.

Two wide glass opening doors, each fitted with quality brass catches for practical and secure access.

This is a high-end display cabinet that will provide many more years of enjoyment and practical use, whether placed in a commercial environment or a domestic setting.

WORKSHOP REPORT:

There are minor nibbles to the glass shelves, which is something we would expect to find where they have come into contact with the cast brackets over time.

One shelf section has a fisheye chip to the rear edge. As this is positioned at the back, it does not detract from the overall appearance of the cabinet.

As expected, the glass top shows signs of previous ownership and many years of use. These marks do not impair the cabinet’s beauty or affect the viewing of items displayed inside.

We do not feel that any of the above affects the beauty or practical use of the cabinet. For that reason, we have not considered it necessary to undertake the added expense of repairing or replacing parts, as those costs would unfortunately need to be reflected in the price of the cabinet.
